Not Just Any Water...Alkaline!

Ever taken time to think about the water that you drink? There are things that you may need to know about the type of water that is right for you.

Before that, think about the experiments many of us used to conduct with a litmus paper in science class when we were younger. Remember how we used to take solutions and test acidity levels and alkalinity levels?

The experiments used to give three different outcomes. The teacher would explain that when a blue litmus paper turned red, and the red litmus paper not affected, the substance was said to be acidic while the opposite was acidic. When both papers remained unaffected, the substance was said to be neutral. On PH scale, acidic substances range between 1-7, while alkaline ranges between 7-14. It is as simple as that. The best water for drinking, research shows, is alkaline water with a PH level averaging 8.


Alkaline water is said to be beneficial to human health. It enables the body to neutralize the body, offsetting acids from food. In the process, stress can be reduced. There is also, a strong belief that alkaline water can neutralize the acid in the blood by giving the body more energy and an increased metabolism rate. This helps to absorb the nutrients to your body fast.

There is also the view that your body can resist some diseases, and slow down the aging process by drinking alkaline water. Scientific evidence has also shown the rate of bone loss is decreased. The benefits of drinking alkaline water are quite remarkable.

Some good news for pregnant mothers is that you gain a lot with the consumption of alkaline water. It is safe for your health and your unborn baby. Scientifically, you lose a lot of alkaline minerals to the fetus when you become pregnant. The fetus stays in the uterus, until the water breaks after 9 months. The fetus feed through the placenta and releases acidic waste through the same. The mother’s blood vessels are connected to the fetus and thus the acidic waste raises the acidic level, which alkaline water helps to control.

There could also be post-delivery problems. This may happen because the body losses a lot of calcium during pregnancy. Another problem associated with pregnancy is osteoporosis. This is also caused by accumulation of acids in the body. Lack of alkaline leads to accumulation of solid wastes like cholesterol, fatty acid, uric acid among others.

The benefits are great when it comes to drinking water in general but with alkaline added to the mix, you will gain even more. With a solid workout plan, with an alkaline "spritz", you cannot go wrong. So drink up!
