Creative Nail Design (CND), a California developer of nail products and services has developed an innovative method of nail application called Shellac. It is the rage and if you have not heard of it, you probably will very soon. Click here to find a Shellac provider near you.

Shellac offers a high-gloss shine that does not become dull and if applied correctly, should not chip for at least 2 weeks. Only available for use through a professional nail salon, there is a process and equipment in place that ensures that the polish will last and not chip. CND has the UV3 lamp, the base/top coats, polishes and wrap for removal.

The actual shellac will cost you between $30-40 dollars and take approximately 20 minutes. The process involves:

• Base coat applicaton
• 10 seconds under UV lamp
• 2nd coat applied
• 2 minutes under UV lamp
• 3rd coat
• UV lamp
• Top coat applied
• UV lamp
• Nails are wiped with alcohol

For the removal, a Shellac Remover Wrap is used that protects your skin from the acetone by targeting just the nail.

Some doctors warn of the long-term use of UV rays which may not only cause cancer but can also age your hands. It is recommended that you use sun block and do not look directly at the lamp while having your nails done.
